A very large and rare Pomo treasure basket

Item#: 1521

Circa: 1840
Diameter: 25in
Height: 11in
Large coiled baskets were sometimes made for gifts between families at weddings and important occasions. Among the Pomo, the mother of the bride would present the basket to the mother of the groom. When viewed from top or bottom, the pattern appears as a dazzling swirling design. Accompanying photo shows similar basket by weaver Ellen Snapp.
